I'm here to defend our god given right to variable pitch props, pistons and mixture ratios. Sure, you can go all jet and get greater speed and altitude, but we all know it is more satisfying to crank up the carb heat, lean her out and watch the RPMs. AmIright? Plus, 'Murica.

Next thing you know you will be installing an autopilot. You know what you will be then? A passenger! You want peanuts with that?

Oh yeah?! Well I bet you still use a yoke to fly! What's wrong? HOTAS too complex with all those buttons on the sticks?

Yeah, but I hate trying to taxi on a busy ramp while messing with my pitch and mixture.

Yeah but variable geometry wings are like gullwings. Everyone wants to see you use them.

carb heat is a power suck. Max power, props pulled back just a hair off the redline and lean out for power rich of peak. It's rented. F'it-ain't my gas!....

Watch your manifold pressure and don't overspeed the prop.

I guess you would need one of those to get a ramjet up to speed. That's extra complexity.
